Double Vanity
Many master and guest (or hall) bathrooms in South Orange County only have one vanity (sink). Clients are not aware that in most cases they can have a double vanity when remodeling their bathrooms.
Adding a double vanity means taking one sink and turning it into two sinks.
Why do people want a double vanity?
Adding a double vanity to a guest or master bathroom offers lots of advantages. Double bathroom vanities offer all the benefits of a single vanity times two.
- A double vanity provides space for two individuals to get ready each morning and evening.
- There is less stress about sharing the bathroom.
- More convenience and flexibility overall.
Let’s take a closure look at each of these.
A double vanity provides space for two individuals to get ready each morning and evening
The biggest benefit of double vanities is space. Each person gets his or her own sink area to use each day. No one needs to fight over bathroom time, and no one is in the way of someone else’s routine. You can also keep all your personal toiletries right at your own area of the bathroom, so they’re ready and waiting for you each day.
When there are double vanities and the cabinet is custom made, each user can have the inside of their door and drawer areas made to how they use the space.
One might need a dedicated outlet and space for a blow dryer inside a drawer. Another may need multiple pullout drawers under the sink for personal items.
There is less stress about sharing the bathroom with a double vanity
Two examples come to mind when talking about double vanities and stress. First, I hear from clients all the time that they need an answer to their kids engaging in all out combat every morning and evening over sharing a sink. Brushing teeth, styling hair, and fighting over mirror space to perform personal hygiene and apply cosmetics. Some clients have told me the fighting is unbearable!
The second example is when two adults are each trying to get ready for work in the morning while sharing one sink in the master bathroom. Each adult has their own personal assortment of toiletries, hair care products, and cosmetics. They also have their own routine for getting ready in the morning and when getting ready for bed at night.
You should also consider cleanliness and product volume. Does your partner leave stubble or toothpaste in the sink? How about leaving water on the counter and the mirror a mess? Do you have a lot of products that need their own space? Can you count on your partner to clean up enough after themselves? Lastly, does your partner store so many personal items under sink that the cabinet door can’t (or barely) closes?
Removing all the challenges in this section by having your own sink, mirror, cabinet, countertop, and outlet space can easily create a better relationship. Consider for a moment that we are typically not at our best first thing in the morning. Tired, groggy, and in a hurry is not the time for skirmishes over toothpaste in the sink. Layer in getting children ready for school and having a nasty argument while fighting for mirror space can become downright cruel. Enduring all this nastiness for weeks, months, or years will wear on any relationship.
Double Vanities Provide more convenience and flexibility overall
Two sinks mean more than one person can use the bathroom at the same time. If everyone needs to get ready at the same time, this is a nice little compromise that works for everybody.
A single sink vanity might provide a little more countertop space, but you also increase the chance of cluttering the countertop. Having a double sink vanity will encourage you to tidy up your countertop better.
With a double vanity, both people can stand side-by-side and have counterspace and mirror access. Everyone’s habits and reasons are different for how they use their bathroom cabinet and countertop space. A double vanity provides this flexibility.
A double vanity also allows for 2 or more electrical receptacles (outlets). If there is one item that everyone can agree on, it is the need for more than one electrical outlet for the bathroom countertop!
Another convenience is lighting. With a double vanity, each sink can have its own lighting. This lighting can be customized for your own needs.
Do double vanities also add value to your home?
While one sink is typical and essential, two sinks make your home more desirable and attractive to potential buyers. Often, the choice to buy one home over another is how practical the bathroom is. A double vanity definitely adds to that.
